Helpdesk for visiting Rotarians to Leeuwarden

Dear Rotarians of Europe!

On behalf of four Rotary Clubs in Leeuwarden it is an honor to inform you that – after a ‘struggle’ with other popular Dutch cities as the Hague, Utrecht and Maastricht – our great old city of Leeuwarden has been elected European Capital of Culture 2018.

Leeuwarden is located in the north of the Netherlands and is the capital of Friesland, a province with many lakes, islands, the Wadden Sea (a World Heritage Site), and several interesting medieval cities. No wonder our region is a quite popular destination for tourists. By car Leeuwarden is just little over an hour away from Amsterdam and Schiphol Airport.

We expect many, many tourists from all over Europe to visit Leeuwarden as European Capital of Culture in 2018. Besides existing ‘treasures’ that Leeuwarden and Friesland have to offer, there will be a great variety of cultural events to be enjoyed throughout the year. For more information on these events, please visit (consult via ‘menu’ the calendar). An interesting platform for meeting of local people is (the English version) of the

Naturally, all Rotarians from Europe and beyond will be especially welcome in our city and region in 2018.

Because of that reason we have formed a helpdesk, consisting of one representative of each Rotary Club in Leeuwarden. Experts on the city and the province, ready to answer any question regarding the upcoming cultural year. With international cooperation being one of the main goals of the Rotary, we would like to offer our services to all fellow Rotarians who consider visiting Leeuwarden and Friesland in 2018.

Also, we could mediate in case you would like to contact a Rotarian of your profession in our city or province. Of course the door to our meetings in Leeuwarden and Friesland are open to interested Rotarians (a request in advance to attend would be appreciated).

In a nutshell: Send special questions about 2018 to the four Rotary Clubs in Leeuwarden via
